Western Mass Bailout Project
BRANDING The Western Mass Bailout Project is an abolitionist coalition and an all-volunteer grassroots network dedicated to bailing out people in Massachusetts’s Hampshire and Franklin County jails. In addition to posting bail, the organization presents political education events about pretrial incarceration and other subjects related to the Prison Industrial Complex. For this project, I was tasked with redesigning the visual identity and website to emphasize the organization’s calls to action and create a suite of social media graphic templates for non-designers to promote resources and events. Working closely with the steering committee, I developed a visual identity built around three bright colors that reflect the counties’ natural environments while conveying the organization’s energetic, community-driven work. The website extends the palette and uses Franklin Gothic, a bold condensed sans serif, to emphasize three primary actions and organize information for easy reading.

The social media graphic templates are designed for non-designers to easily input information while helping viewers understand each message at a glance. The templates use clear typographic hierarchy, contrasting colors, and button-like boxes to encourage action. Using the same visual language as the website, the templates support the organization’s different communication goals, ranging from urgent fundraising messages to invitations to educational events.
